How to Recharge Coleman RV Air Conditioner

The Coleman RV air conditioner is a popular choice among RV owners due to its reliability and efficiency. However, over time, you may notice a decline in its cooling performance, which could be an indication that it needs to be recharged. Here are the steps to recharge your Coleman RV air conditioner:

1. Safety first: Make sure to turn off all power sources and disconnect the unit from the electrical supply.

2. Locate the access panels: Remove the interior and exterior access panels to gain access to the evaporator and condenser coils.

3. Inspect the coils: Check for any signs of damage or leaks on the coils. If you notice any leaks or damage, it is advisable to contact a professional for repairs.

4. Clean the coils: Use a soft brush or a vacuum cleaner to remove dirt, dust, and debris from the coils. This will improve the efficiency of the air conditioner.

5. Locate the service valves: Find the low-pressure and high-pressure service valves on the refrigerant lines. These valves are usually labeled.

6. Connect the manifold gauge set: Attach the manifold gauge set to the service valves. The high-pressure gauge should be connected to the high-pressure service valve, and the low-pressure gauge to the low-pressure service valve.

7. Check the pressure: Start the air conditioner and allow it to run for a few minutes. Observe the pressure readings on the manifold gauges. The low-pressure side should read between 25 and 30 psi, while the high-pressure side should read between 200 and 250 psi. If the readings are significantly lower or higher, it may indicate a need for recharge.

8. Recharge the system: If the pressure readings are low, it’s time to recharge the system. Attach the refrigerant canister to the manifold gauge set by screwing it onto the can tap valve. Slowly open the valve to allow the refrigerant to flow into the system. Monitor the pressure readings until they reach the recommended levels mentioned earlier.
