Founded in 1937 by William Shirely Fulton as a private, nonprofit musuem and research facility, the Amerind Museum is dedicated to the preservation and interpretation of Native American cultures and their histories. Offering many displays that feature objects from prehistoric and historic Native cultures of the Americas, the AMerind also includes an impressive art gallery with works by prominent American artists, such as Fredric Remington, William R. Leigh and R.C.Gorman.
The Museum store offers items created by Native American artists along with a great selection of CDs by Native musicians, books on prehistory, Native American cultures, childrens books,local environment and books on flora and fauna of the area.
The Amerind is located in spectacular Texas Canyon in the Little Dragoon Mountains in Southeastern Arizona, one mile off I-10 between Tucson and Willcox on exit #318-Dragoon Road. Bring a picnic lunch and enjoy the picnic area amongst the massive granite boulders.
