Skiing & Snow Sports
Who says there’s no snow in Arizona? While the Grand Canyon state is known for its deserts, Arizona is also home to countless snow-capped peaks, as well as developed ski areas for downhill skiers and snowboarders and natural areas perfect for cross-country skiing and snowshoeing.
Downhill Skiing & Snowboarding
There are many places in Arizona where you can downhill ski and snowboard on challenging, beautiful mountain slopes – and enjoy crisp, sunny weather throughout the season. With ski resorts in Northern Arizona, Southern Arizona and North Central Arizona, a snowy getaway may be closer than you think.
Arizona Snowbowl
Located on the San Francisco Peaks in northern Arizona, the Arizona Snowbowl is the state’s most popular ski destination. With over 32 runs of varied difficulty, the Snowbowl is ideal for families and ski pros alike.
Sunrise Ski Resort
Tucked away in the charming mountain town of Greer in north central Arizona, Sunrise Ski Resort features three mountains and 65 runs. There is also a separate snowboarding area, cross-country ski trails and a special childrens's "ski-wee" area.
Mt. Lemmon Ski Valley
Near sunny Tucson in southern Arizona, Mt. Lemmon Ski Valley features 21 ski trails for hours of family fun. With a tasty indoor restaurant and casual patio café, Mt. Lemmon Ski Valley promises a day full of excitement.
If your skills are more bunny hill than black diamond, don’t worry. Most Arizona ski resorts also offer lessons, and equipment rentals are available at multiple locations throughout the state.
Cross-Country Skiing and Snowshoeing
Enjoy the slow pace and untouched scenery of an Arizona cross-country skiing or snowshoeing trip. Many of the state’s best areas for snowshoeing and cross-country skiing are located in North Central Arizona, specifically the Flagstaff Nordic Center, with meandering trails and picturesque landscapes stretching for miles.
