Haunted Arizona

Looking for a mysterious, haunted adventure? Home to many historical Old West sites, Arizona is loaded with lost mines, ghostly cowboy stories, haunted hotels, stories of murder and mysterious creatures. Here are a few favorite destinations for spook-filled fun:

• Bisbee
  Tucked into a small gulch in the Mule Mountains of Southern Arizona, the town of Bisbee is a turn-of-the-century gem that made – and lost – its fortune in the local copper mines. Today, artists and antique dealers call the town home, but you can still take a ghost tour through its preserved streets, or stay the night at the illustrious Copper Queen Hotel, said to be haunted by a young woman jilted by her lover here. 
• Jerome 
  Called the "Wickedest City in the West," this copping-mining town was once the fourth-largest city in the Arizona Territory. But after the mines closed in 1953, the population disappeared – turning the city into a ghost town where stories of spooks ran wild. Today, Jerome is a thriving artist’s community dedicated to galleries, museums, antique shops and dining – but it’s still home to plenty of haunted places, like the famed Jerome Grand Hotel, a former hospital.
• Tombstone
  Located in Southern Arizona, Tombstone was known as a silver-mining boomtown where gunfights and unruly cowboys reigned supreme. The Bird Cage Theater, a saloon that closed in 1889, is said to still host the ghosts of its onetime clientele, including cowboys, dancers and gamblers.
• The Grand Canyon
  Hiking, rafting and…haunting? While the Grand Canyon is known for its natural beauty, the North Rim is also said to be home to the "Wandering Woman." According to the legend, this ghost wanders the North Rim in search of her family, who died in a hiking accident in the 1920s.
