Hot Well Dunes Recreation Area

The Hot Well Dunes Recreation Area is located 35 miles south of Safford in the San Simon Valley. Far from town, the hot wells make for a peaceful desert experience.

This outdoor retreat has two natural hot tubs, 10 tent and RV units, fire grills and restroom facilities. Off-highway vehicle driving through the sand dunes is great for the adventurous type, while the hot tubs are available to those that need rest and relaxation.

The two soaking tubs are filled by water constantly flowing from an artesian well at 106 degrees. These tubs overflow into a sand-lined pool where the water cools to a lukewarm temperature. The well has been producing 250 gallons of water a minute since 1928.
