Picacho Peak State Park
Picacho Peak State Park will be closed from May 16 - September 14, 2011. The park will reopen on September 15, 2011.
Picacho Peak has always been a landmark for tribes, early explorers, pioneers and modern day travelers. In 1846, the Mormon Battalion, on their way to California to fight in the war with Mexico, constructed a wagon road through Picacho Pass. The Peak was also the site of the westernmost battle of the Civil War.
