Springerville
Located 14 miles from the New Mexico border, Springerville is a hub of activity on Arizona's eastern edge, providing a great starting point for day trips up and down the state line. Although not known for its Wild West days, the Springerville area was the home to the Clanton gang - which you may have heard about at the famed OK Corral - as well as many others. When you visit, make sure to stop at the chamber of commerce for "Pistols, Plows and Petticoats," the perfect tourbook for your self-guided journey through the history and lore of the Springerville area.

Springerville History & Culture
The Springerville area was first settled by Ancient Puebloans about 800 years ago. In the 1860s, hispanic sheep herders came to settle. These herders were later replaced by Texas cattle ranchers. During the late 1800s, Springerville became a true Wild West town. Many outlaws used this area to hide from the law - which was all the way in Prescott at the time. Gangs like the Clantons, Snyders, Westbrooks and more made the local residents beware. Today, this a peaceful beautiful place to live, work and raise a family - or just to visit.
