Southwest Fiber Arts Festival at the Tubac Presidio
Saturday, November 3, 2012

The Tubac Presidio State Historic Park will host the Southwest Fiber Arts Festival on Saturday, November 3, 2012 from 10am to 4pm. The event will be held during Art Experience Weekend in Tubac.

This popular annual festival is in its fifth year and showcases premier fiber artists and purveyors from around the Southwest. The festival features fiber art demonstrations, wearable art, hand-dyed fibers, craft tools, and “Make & Take” projects. Special guests at this family-friendly event will be the alpacas, angora goats and rabbits that produce the fiber for the artists. Visitors will also have the opportunity to explore the museum, underground archaeology exhibit and historic buildings on the Tubac Presidio Park grounds.

Fiber art classes will be offered on the day before the festival, Friday, November 2. Topics include pine needle basketry, beginning colcha embroidery and inkle weaving. Class information is available online at www.TubacPresdioPark.com and the class registration deadline is October 15.

The festival was originally organized in 2008 by the Southwest Fiber Arts Guild to promote the fiber arts, resources and educational opportunities in the Southwest. The Guild has passed along their festival tradition to the Tubac Presidio State Historic Park as this year’s sponsor and organizer, with former guild members offering guidance and educational resources in support of the event.

Festival admission is $5 adults, $2 youth (7–13) and children free. Proceeds will benefit the Tubac Presidio. The Tubac Presidio State Historic Park is located at 1 Burruel Street in Tubac, Arizona (Exit 34 on I-19 south of Tucson). For more information, please call 520-398-2252 or visit www.TubacPresidioPark.com.
